broe-sfeir — the men’s tradition of counsel. What a young man is told about how to be one.

Notes

Provision, protection, the governing of temper, the keeping of one’s word, what is owed to a household and what is owed to a craft. Delivered by fathers, masters, older workmates, and men in taverns who have had a drink and a thought. Much of it is sound. A good deal of it is a man repeating what he was told at nineteen without having examined it since, and the better sort of teacher says so.
