Merka — the distance a Kravoen will not suffer a vessel to come within.
Notes
The same every time, and every crew knows it precisely and teaches it to the next. A boat may sit at the edge of the Merka for as long as it likes and nothing happens.
The hunt begins when someone says closer. Crossing the Merka is the decision, and every man in the boat knows what the word does.
Read as the animal’s temperament, and it is not temperament. It is a threshold, and it does not care what shape the thing crossing it has.
