Roedskrin

Every Roedhaven runs a post, and the network they make between them — the Roedskrin — is how the world knows what is happening on the Frontier.

How it works

A station keeps a Broek loft, employs whoever runs it, charges the fees, and keeps the money. It is one of the better earners a station has and belongs to the station alone; a garrison post's Roedskrin belongs to the city that garrisons it. Nobody organized the network. A station passes a message to the next because the next station pays, and everyone in the chain takes a cut.

What travels with the paid messages is what the road needs to know: a Vespra that has spread, a Stoendh on a stretch of the Brass Road, a bridge gone after the spring melt, a Kammra season that started early. Stations want that information for themselves, and sharing it costs a bird and four lines and makes every station on the line worth more.

What it is not

Private. A Roedskrin is a business with no obligation to anyone, and a station that wants to know what it is carrying can simply look. Most will not, because a station known for reading its traffic stops receiving it. The Iron Coves buy information from the stations that will. Anything that really matters travels with a person and not by bird.
