Pets and House Animals
Beira is the word for a pet — an animal kept for company rather than work. A Vennek is never called one; asleep by the fire it is still thought to be working.
- Gyrska
- The household and ship line of the Neska, and probably the most common pet in the world. See Neska#The Gyrska.
- Household Wysk
- Kept everywhere — inquisitive, chatty, standing on anything that will hold them and investigating anything that moves, greeting the household's return with chatter heard from the street. See Wysk.
- Household Slyva
- Kept in great numbers in Eldershore and along every southern river. A family Slyva is a pet and nothing else; it is never hired out, and the suggestion would be taken poorly. Affectionate, playful, and clever. See Slyva.
- Household Broek
- Learn far more than they should and repeat it when least wanted. People find this amusing and keep them for it. See Broek.
- Ornamental Taedh
- A bred line of the river fish kept for its coloring in garden ponds, courtyard basins, and tanks in wealthy households, mainly in Eldershore and Shining Reach. They could not survive a season in open water and everyone knows it.
