A small pollinating insect about half again the size of a honeybee, broad-bodied, calm, and hardy across temperatures from Stormharbor's cold to Eldershore's summers. Without the Nywich the orchards, vines, Paem, and most food crops do not grow, which makes it one of the most economically necessary creatures in the world; every agricultural ring keeps it. Stormharbor has one of the most developed keeping traditions, because Nyona is its only sweetener and Skoerd rests on it entirely, and a skilled keeper has real standing there. Forgegate has built clever brass-and-glass clockwork for ventilating and monitoring hives. Eldershore's varieties produce Nyona all year.
