Notes
Not a word so much as a shape. Three strokes standing and one laid down, recognized on sight and reproduced everywhere without explanation. Its origin was a single earnest appeal for sympathy that its audience found self-serving; what survived was not the appeal but the pattern of it, repeated back endlessly. Used in brain-net chats by drawing it rather than saying it.
