Zhoena — the reef fish of Eldershore’s warm shallows. Eaten the day it is landed and no later.
Notes
Bright — red, gold, banded — deep bodied and heavy jawed, and taken in every size from a hand’s length to a Streid. It does not keep and it does not travel, and no method anyone has tried has changed either fact. So it is eaten fresh, daily, by everyone in Eldershore, and never by anybody else. The morning fish markets are full by dawn and empty by noon, and northern visitors remark on both the abundance and the fact that none of it can be bought to take home.
