Skwyla — a veil; anything that covers and conceals. Also fog, in the mouth of a sailor.

Of cloth, of intention, and of weather. A person may speak through a Skwyla, meaning they have not said the thing directly.
At sea it means fog and nothing else, and a crew that says the Skwyla is coming down is not being poetic.
