Notes
Winter solstice. The turning of the year and the year’s hinge — the day the dark breaks. Marks the passage from the City months to the Personal months. Observed rather than dated: each city-state declares the day by its own reckoning, so the festivals fall on different days in different cities and no two agree exactly. The five festival days sit outside the eight months, which is why the year is 365 days while the months account for only 360.
