Hoelshoed — the standard shot of every army in the world. Conical, hollow-based, and cast slightly under the bore.

It drops down a fouled barrel without forcing, and the gas expands the hollow base into the rifling when it fires. Loose going in, tight going out.
That is what makes a Skaerflint both accurate and quick. A tight ball in a rifled bore has to be forced past the residue and a barrel is unusable inside twenty rounds; a Hoelshoed goes sixty or eighty before anyone thinks about it. It flies better than a ball as well, which is most of where the range comes from.
Cast in every city, in moulds a smith can make, from lead anybody can get. A soldier can make his own badly and most have.
