Sure-footed and stocky, the Baechri walks any ground — thin moorland, rocky highland, mountain slope — and turns land that grows nothing into land that feeds people. Its fleece is Fleisk, and what kind depends on the breed.
Stormharbor's herds live in humid cold at sea level and grow a coarse, heavy, rain-shedding fleece spun into cloaks, coats, and blankets. Stormharbor could not survive winter without it. It is a bulk fiber sold by weight, unglamorous and always needed, and it travels the Brass Road in quantity. Clearhold's herds live in dry cold at altitude, with little rain to shed and much frost to survive, and grow a fine dense fleece in small amounts; the cloth made from it is some of the finest and warmest money can buy, sold by length, and a Clearhold Fleisk coat is kept and cared for across generations. One breed gives cheap warmth to the many and the other fine cloth to the few, and both cities are content with the arrangement.
The milk is rich and sharp and makes hard cheese that keeps for years. The meat is eaten. The Draebaech is the pack line, kept in Clearhold to work. A herder without Wysk and a Vennek does not keep a Baechri herd long on open ground; see Grimvach.
