Notes
A little larger than one might expect, broad-bodied and short-legged, calm and tolerant of confinement. It lays nearly every day the year round rather than by season, which is the single most consequential fact about food in the Known World and one nobody thinks about. A reliable daily egg from a bird that costs almost nothing to feed means cheap protein for the poorest household in every city. Kept in yards, in coops against a wall, and in waystation enclosures along every road. Engineered pre-Fall. The year-round laying is the modification.
