sirkli — a circle, a ring, a closed loop. Used literally for geometric shapes and rings of people, and philosophically for the Oethboend circle — the closed ring of mutual obligation between crew, family, or bonded people. A brechei Syrkoel (broken circle) is the most devastating image in Stoermhavn grief poetry: the ring that can never close again.
