Aesloes
Occasionally somebody turns up on the Frontier, and rarely anywhere else, who cannot say where they come from in a way that makes sense. They are not being evasive. They know where they are from; the place is simply on no map. They come from a family nobody has heard of, hold a station that does not exist, and cannot reasonably account for how they came to be where they are. These are the Aesloes — those whose aeslae answers to nothing.
Often they arrive without proper speech, speaking something indecipherable. They are given the Oelwy, which is what has been done since people began to arrive, and it lets them speak; no one knows why it works. When they can finally answer questions, the answers usually help no one.
The Aesloes are rare. Most people go their whole lives without meeting one, and would still know exactly what they were looking at if they did.
What becomes of them
An Aesloes who can look after themselves reaches a Roedhaven on their own feet as an unplaceable stranger; a keeper who needs competent hands does not much care, and standing can be built from nothing over years. An Aesloes who cannot is a Fyndra with nothing to weigh — no house will pay, no city will claim — and the decision to enslave them is made the same day. Most cannot, and those who can were generally trained in survival before they arrived.
