Notes
Not a name. A Forgegate guildsman and an Eldershore elder both call what they speak the Spraecha and mean nothing more by it than words. Nobody distinguishes it from anything, because there is nothing to distinguish it from, and a scholar who proposed naming it properly would be asked what else there was. Regional accent and turn of phrase vary considerably — the measured elegance of Shining Reach, the directness of Forgegate, the rolling quality of Stormharbor speech, the warmth of Eldershore, the of Clearhold, the rapid assertion of the Iron Coves — but a free person of any city may make themselves understood in any other, and does. The English renderings Common Reason Tongue and Brain Rot Tongue are translations of names from two different eras, and holding both requires access to pre-Fall sources. Nobody in Year 917 has heard the second name or knows there was one. The convention is left unexplained.
