Notes
The pair of aefka: aefka is the state of being gone, beirbei the promise of returning. Said at a door, over a shoulder, or written on a shop shutter. Among caravan workers it carries genuine weight — a man who says beirbei and does not return has broken something, and the word is avoided by those who are not sure.
