| Stage | Modern CLT |
| Pronunciation | /ˈaɪf.ka/ |
| Part of speech | Adjective; Adverb |
| Etymology | from Middle āfkā, from Proto afka |

aefka — away; absent; not where one is looked for.
Notes
The ordinary word for a person who is simply not here — out of the shop, off the ship, away from the bench. Carries no blame on its own: a man may be aefka for perfectly good reasons, and the word says nothing about them. A slave described as aefka, however, is a matter for someone.
