katfoe
Stage Modern CLT
Pronunciation /ˈkat.fɔɪ/
Part of speech Verb; Noun
Etymology from Middle katfō, from Proto katfo
Related words Bil o Chatl, Maegistraet

katfoe — to be caught with proof that admits no denial; evidence of that kind.

Notes

A term of law and of the market. A katfoe is not an accusation but a demonstration — the ledger, the broken seal, the witnessed hand. Magistrates use it formally; a Bill of Chattel produced against a false claim is the classic katfoe. No scholar can say what the second element originally meant, and the Academy has published three competing derivations, none of them correct.
