Teich — the smallest unit of time, one sixty-fourth of a Maerk, about 1.3 seconds. Also the simplest clockwork instrument, which counts them.
Notes
64 Teich = 1 Maerk. 64 Maerk = 1 Spaen. 16 Spaen = 1 day, which is 65,536 Teich, and the Academy holds this to be the natural division of the day. The word names both the interval and the device. A Teich is a small handheld clockwork that produces precisely timed clicks, used for calibration, for medicine, and by anyone whose work must be counted rather than estimated. It is the simplest of the five clockwork instruments and the first a Forgegate apprentice is given. Named for the sound.
