Rypra — the schooling razor-toothed fish of the warm seas.
Notes
Not large individually — a forearm’s length, silver and narrow, with a jaw that opens further than it should. They move in schools of hundreds and it is the school that does the work.
Strips a body to bone in minutes. A man in the water in the southern lanes has whatever time it takes his crew to reach him and not a moment more, which is why every southern vessel drills the recovery and why going over the side is treated as it is.
They do not range north. In the cold seas the Rypra is a story, and falling overboard there kills a man by other means entirely.
